What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data that appears on the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and the user’s IP address and browser to help identify spam.

An anonymous string generated from your email address (called a hash) can be provided to the Gravatar service if you use it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you can choose to have your name, email address and website saved in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you sign in, we will also set several cookies to store your login details and your screen display options. Login cookies last two days and screen options cookies last one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will be retained for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

How long we keep your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely. This is so that we can identify and approve any subsequent comments automatically instead of keeping them in a monitoring queue.

For users who register on our site (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except that they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights you have to your data

If you have an account on this website or have left comments, you can request to receive an extracted file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data that we are required to retain for administrative, legal or security reasons.
